    Presentation Learning Objectives:

    1. First Objective: Discuss assessment tools necessary for comprehensive nutrition assessment of an athlete
    2. Second Objective: Describe recommendations surrounding generalized and training-specific fueling for athletes
    3. Third Objective: Identify nutrition-related conditions commonly associated with the athletic population

    Speaker: 

    Angela Bruzina is a PhD Candidate in Exercise Physiology at the University of Minnesota in the Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Laboratory. She is a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics who has worked with athletes at all competitive levels. Angela has supported elite athletes across the NFL, MLS, Power 5 NCAA programs, and TeamUSA. She is currently the team dietitian for a professional women’s soccer team, Bay FC, in their inaugural season in the NWSL. Angela has been an invited speaker for various national organizations related to her experience, including the American Athletic Conference, Major League Soccer, Science in Sport, and The Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association.

    A Cincinnati native, Angela completed her Masters in Nutrition Sciences from the University of Cincinnati where she was a graduate research assistant in the Varsity Athletic Department. Angela went on to fill a Visiting Instructor role at the University of Cincinnati until she relocated to Minneapolis in early 2020. In her doctoral work, she aims to explore whole-body metabolic changes that occur following skeletal muscle injuries, specifically those observed in tactical and sports settings. She hopes to return to professional soccer as an integrated clinician and researcher to support the health and wellness of elite athletes.

    Angela lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Justin, and their newly-welcomed son, Graham. Outside of research and studying, Angela enjoys kayaking, trying new foods, and home improvement projects.

    Cost:

    Free for GCDA members, $10 for non-GCDA Members, and $5 for non-GCDA Member Students
